ChristLife partnered with the Diocese of Pittsburgh to host a Discovering Christ Conference at St. Paul’s Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA. 98 participants were trained in using the Discovering Christ program as a means of evangelization in their parishes.
The conference was run as a part of an Evangelization Pilot Initiative from the Evangelization Office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh where 13 parishes were being trained in Discovering Christ and provided with ChristLife Evangelization Kit. The goal of the Evangelization Pilot Initiative is to create a culture of missionary discipleship at parishes. The ChristLife Series is being used as the foundational element in in this Initiative.
Dr. Michel Therrien, Director of Evangelization for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, shared with the conference attendees about the process for the Evangelization Initiative and how ChristLife was going to play a key role in fostering evangelization and discipleship in these parishes. One participant shared, "It's exciting to see this program taking root in the Church and in our diocese."
Conference presenters Dave Nodar, Fr. Erik Arnold, Leo Rudegair, and John Messina covered important topics for effectively using Discovering Christ to evangelize including: running an evangelizing small group, worshipping in an evangelizing environment, and making the invite. Participants left the conference feeling spiritual renewed and equipped to evangelize. After hearing the “Making the Invite” talk by Dave Nodar, a participant shared, "It gave me the courage to go out and invite friends to the course and get them back to the church."
The opportunities for spiritual renewal included a time of prayer for renewal in the Holy Spirit where the majority of the participants sought out being prayed with. One participant left feeling more hopeful, “I was given a lot of hope that it is possible to evangelize... even the apathetic."
